Movies in Kuwait.

No, i’m not going to talk about censors and censorship here in kuwait. No, i’m not saying they are stupid for cutting a french kiss while leaving all kinds of cursing, bad language and referals for all kinds of taboos. (kuwaiti taboos that is)

I have a question, Why Blockbusters (which means expensive and high budget) like “i,Robot” get released here in kuwait almost the same time as does in the states and sometimes before europe. While Independent Movies (which means cheap and shoe-string-budget) like “Lost In Translation” have to wait more than a year to get released here.

I need some one to answer me or i will go totally nuts.

Lost in Translation was released in Kuwait? When was this?

I think the main reason is the monopoly in the cinemas in Kuwait. It is just KNCC. They control what is shown, and cater to the majority.

I avoid movies in Kuwait like the plague, its just pointless to see a movie here. The people, the stupid seating arrangements and even the food they serve. I heard they finally got rid of the intermission but I am not going to waste my money to find out.

no i don’t think they released it here in kuwait yet, but you can see the big banners near the popcorn stands. They also started showing the trailer in the beginging of the movies (which mean they will release it realy soon).

i’m not sure if they will cut the extended butt-shot of scarllet johanson in the begining of the movie, it’s almost harmless. :p

I haven’t been to the movies in Kuwait in ages, so I wouldn’t know. Just talking to some friends and they were saying how in Kuwait they will remove minutes from a movie not cause of censorship but the guy just didn’t like the scene or they feel the movie is too long so they remove.

We need to do a strike. Just one week nobody goes to see any movies until they bring them in uncensored. If the islamics can go and protest Star Academy why can’t we protest a movie that has been censored.

Has nibaq given a good idea???

He i am in … we already do boycott cinemas in kuwait lol…but we need, at least one thursday, for everyone to boycott the cinema… its one thing to censor kisses and sex scenes, but to censor violent scenes in a movie that is alrated 18 and above??? and honestly, i am not into blockbuster movies, and not into sitting in the theatre and have the movie i am watching be interrupted during its peak, for everyone to be able to rush to the toilets!!!

It doesn’t have to be effective. It is a publicity stunt. Islamic go and protest knowing it wont stop anything, but just to say “HEY WE EXIST AND HERE WE ARE”. So why not we?

We just need 10-15 people goto a cinema hang around for an hour with signs stating how kids are seeing movies where their is death and murder, and adults can’t see a couple hold hands. And just really smile for the camera.

    It will generate conversation.

If ever went to kuwait entertainment city or maybe even shaab park you’ll find these banners infront of each game stating the minimum age or heigh of the person who can play this game.

A Similar invention in the world of cinema and theatres called “Rating” and KNCC never heard of this invention, we will just have to educate them.

actually I’m thinking maybe we can start a guerilla campaign (unauthorized flyers, stickers, posters in the streets).

It doesn’t have to be just a publicity stunt. Islamics are not that organized, that’s why they fail to achive anything sometimes. An Organized Campaign can make miracles.

Grandma, I’m not saying this movie is good and the other is bad. All I’m saying is if KNCC released Independent movies such as “Lost ..” They might make more money because they wouldn’t pay as much for licensing as I’Robot.

And by the way, I went to I’Robot too (under the pressure from my friends) and I liked it.

i know this is a very late… no super late reply… but thing is, they know the majority will go to the block busters and they just want to make money. its people like you, and I and a selected few in the kuwaiti society that anticipate great films/independant films, that actually have a great cast, extraordinary story and so on.

so, they know, only 3% of the population will actually go to the great movies, while the rest will go to all the HYPED up ones
