May I suggest you start with the some short stories.

Islamic Drinks

Wednesday, October 27th, 2004

Note: This post was delayed for Unknown Reasons.

I just want to address how stupid is the distributor of Mecca cola here in Kuwait (alwafi trading). How could a company market two brands of cola at the same time? I would understand it if they were somehow different or have some advantage over the other but other than the obvious difference (the brand name) there’s nothing. They only excuse I can find is both of Mecca Cola (Red) and ZamZam Cola (Blue) are Coca-Cola’s (Red) and Pepsi’s (Blue) Cheap Islamic Imitations.

What’s with the headline أشرب ملتزماً (Drink with Commitment) Does that mean if I’m drinking Coca-Cola or Pepsi, I’m not committed (to the Islamic instructions)? Does that mean if I drank Mecca cola I will be a better Muslim and I will surly go to heaven?

Now read this press release by the general manager of Al-Wafi Trading. He says that they are planning to open a “halal” fried chicken chain of restaurants. So suddenly fried chicken becomes an Islamic thing. He also claims that they are giving 10% of their profits to Kuwaiti Charities which Is pure bullshit. It’s the original Company who gives that 10% to the Palestinian children NOT the Kuwaiti children.

Read this

I found It In an old issue of “the face” magazine … Just next to a picture of Jordan (Check out the weird Coincidence, Palestine? Jordan? got It? LOL, Don’t you just miss THE FACE?

So I went off-topic a lil bit but the “butter” of this whole post Is, I find those who use Islam to promote their commercial activities as evil as those who terrorize and kill Innocent people In the name of Islam.

span style=”font-weight: bold;”>Listening to: Blur - Song2

I have been searching for this track since almost 6 years ago. The first time I heard it was on some football video game (fifa?) It was used in the intro of the video game. I would start the game just to listen to it, I never played the game. Thanks D&G, You are my official Music Archivist now. Ironic how such a pop track was really hard to find for me. Never thought it would be blur.

Hey Fuckers, If you want to go Kuwaiti go all the way or don’t go at all and don’t say you don’t know what I’m talking about cuz you fucking know it.

Shemale Moms

No Kuwaiti would say this, ever, no matter how many “badlyat” he throws. The way they wrote that line makes the boy talking to a male. I know some companies don’t want to use the “cha” letter but hey at least write a totally different line and avoid making such a horrible mistake.

This is what you get when you let non-kuwaitis in advertising agencies write the copy in a Kuwaiti accent, “ablah 3a6yaat” kind of thing.

The Real Kitkat

I swear I have nothing personal with these guys but they are just violating the rules of common sense one after another. So you are warning people from some one who’s faking your brand while you are doing it in the first place, huh? Interesting.

My Day

Tuesday, October 12th, 2004

Today I went to the dentist to “kill the root”. My Mouth Was Wide Open all the time, I felt like one of those Japanese girls in a bukkake movie (don’t look this one up). He kept saying “open, open more” I was thinking “What the hell do you think I am? Some kind of a snake?” Of course I couldn’t say anything.

While the dentist was working he was having this weird conversation with the nurse …

Dentist: So? You still have any feelings for your husband?
Nurse: Yeah, One or two.
Dentist: when did you get them?
Nurse: I had them when I was back in India.
Dentist: Back in India?

Maybe It was all in my head but I swear to god they were talking along these lines. I gave them the “WTF?” Look and the nurse told the dentist “I will tell you after this patient” I just thought “Whatever, Just finish your job and talk all you want”.

After that I went on a date with nature. Took my camera and went to that place, the dead trees in subbya. Everything looked different under the sun. Started shooting till I finished my B/W Roll, I replaced it with a normal one and went shooting again. Found some interesting stuff, shot few self portraits too.

On my out of the area I saw this sign “Military Area” All I could think of was “Sheeeet”. I have a history in shooting in military areas. Dunno why they just appeal to me, I love abandoned areas. I once got busted shooting IN FRONT OF an American base here in Kuwait. I will tell you about it later.

Ramblings

The whole thing was an excuse to listen to the pretenders tape (i guess), So after buying the chocolate I desperately needed I drive the car to nowhere.

I have this polish friend of mine (a photographer) who asked me several times to guide her for a photo shoot in jahra. She has been taking pictures of Kuwait for a while now.

It was like a dead forest. Dead trees, No sign of green. If you have seen the village you would know what I’m talking about. First I was scared that I might get lost or something bad would happen while I’m alone here by myself.

I reached this spot where I can’t go any further.

I went to my car and decided to go home … It was 6ish and i didn’t want to get stuck in the schools’ traffic jam.

I also found few ads worth Criticizing. Other than that nothing Interesting was in the papers. oh, there is this ad about this “learn about franchising ..” thing. I might go.

Very Inspiring for nothing. So I go back to my room and find that this track from Amelie is completed. That’s some good news for some one on a dial-up indeed. Yann Tiersen - Le moulin, this guy can fuck you up real good with only an accordion and a piano.

Tape

Saturday, October 9th, 2004

Okay so there’s this door in my car that doesn’t lock properly. It never was a problem so I never bothered to fix it. Well, Last week proved to me that IT IS a problem.

So I’m starting my car, putting my stuff next to me and trying to fetch my portable cd player from the backseat, It appears that while I was applying my crazy driving skills on the streets of Kuwait, My cd player jumped to the backseat. That what I was thinking when I traced the power wires to the backseat … and the shocking news … THE CD PLAYER IS NOT THERE.

Damn, Where the hell did this thing go? I couldn’t find any other explanation. IT’S STOLEN.

So I was thinking of the alternatives. Since I didn’t get into the whole IPod revolution yet. Tape was the logical option. Now I have this weird thing for tapes, If it was on tape it gotta be Rock ‘n’ Roll. It just seem natural, you are riding a motor then you got to listen to rock. It’s the only kind of music that goes well with riding a car.

Also, while I was searching my room for tapes I found these tapes that I recorded awhile ago, It was like an audio diary … felt very nostalgic while listening to myself telling the stories of my day.

This post is Inspired by Nibaq’s Post on Tapes.

Tracks I Love

Wednesday, October 6th, 2004

Gotan Project - La Del Ruso
From their killer Album (La Revancha Del Tango), I dunno but I feel there’s some kind of a khaleeji Vibe to it. Also listen to “Epoca”.

Thom Yorke & PJ Harvey - This Mess We’re In
I dunno why I never gave radiohead a try (I know i’m missing alot) but whenever I listen to a track by thom yorke and some body else (outside radiohead) I just fall in love with it. More Examples: Bjork & Thom Yorke - I’ve Seen It all, DJ Shadow & Thom Yorke - Rabbit In Your Headlight (from Unkle’s Album Psyence Fiction).

Perez “Prez” Prado & His Orchestra - Guaglione
I just love it, I haven’t seen the movie where they used it as soundtrack. Lili Boniche made a song called “Bambino” and he used the same Melody.

Sandy Bull - Carmina Burana Fantasy
I found this track on a Compilation CD made by REM. I don’t know much about sandy bull but I knew that he’s an experiemntal Guitarist. In this track he used the Banjo to play the work of German classical composer Carl Orff. He Used Oud to play a classic jazz rhythm (I can’t remember the name) which was recently used by fairouz in her latest album “wala keef” (the rhythm that is).

Calling all Fashion Designers

Monday, October 4th, 2004

Last Friday I went to “al-blockat” To buy some fabrics, No, It wasn’t for a dishdash or a suit (suit, yeah right). It was for a T-shirt. You see I have this Idea for a project which evolve around T-shirts.
With the help of the Princess of Shoes and Sandals (In Arabic it sounds like an insult.) I located few shops which sell this kind of fabrics. It was somehow costly but I think it’s worth it and some shops were closed (It was a Friday after all).

After that I went to My Auntie who happen to be a very good in tailoring. I told her I want this this and this but she said “I can’t do it, I might fuck it up”. So I went to the nearest tailor who said the same And another said the same and the same and the same. The bottom line, Nobody in Jahra can do it.

The Irony was when one of them said “go to al-blockat, they do this stuff” I just smiled, thanked him and left. Ever since I’m having this crazy idea of doing it myself, Since I’m a sucker for anything DIY.

I went googling for a T-shirt Pattern but no luck. I thought I might copy the design of my favorite t-shirt and hope it would work. But still I didn’t do anything yet.

I will be waiting for your suggestions.
Thanks in Advance.
