Notes On The KAAA

- 6:00 People are gathering, more and more are coming in … more and more familiar faces, It was almost like a school reunion. “Hey!” was the keyword.
- 6:30 The entrance hall was getting stuffed and nobody is allowed in the main hall. More mingling, more conversations juggling.
- 7:00 They finally let us in.
- This dude is talking in a very “patriotic” way about advertising, It just made the whole “school reunion” experience worse and worse. We were already feeling bored and wanting to get out.
- They award the sponsors, then they traumatize us with a supposedly 1.5 minute silent film showing the logos of the sponsors. The film got repeated like 10 times due some technical difficulties with the audio.
- They grow up and decide to go on with show promising us we will see that amazing film again WITH SOUND after the break or something.
- Some of the winning ads are totally new to me. Aren’t they supposed to be published to be listed in this competition?
- In the public service category Paragon was competing with itself. I was really surprised when paragon won. (see: sarcasm)
- The spot light they point at the winners and pass by at us too almost blinded us, The sound almost fucked up our ears for good.
- who on earth would misspell “Dubai” and write “Duabi”?
- Maybe the same guy who misspelled “Virgin” by writing “Virgen”
- I was commenting (see: dissing) on P&A’s commercial for (Dar Al Istithmaar? the one with the kid and the old man with pearls) … I was saying in a relatively high voice “Oh my god, this is awful … No Lip-Sync at all … lip-syncing sucks”. A minute later they announce the very same ad as the winner, the guy next to me stands up to get the prize (so he was the general manager or the creative director) of P&A comes back … I pat on his back and say “mabrook”, he goes like “the lip-sync was bad” I go “Oh well, …”, he goes “The actors are indian” I go like “Oh really?” he goes like ” … ” I shut the fuck up and clap for the next winner.
- Cigar smell (see: stink) all over the place.
- Saatchi & Saatchi were the big winners.
- Only a handful of kuwaiti companies won anything at all. Caviar Productions won a prize, I don’t know which category though, for Soug El Salmyah Ad. (with the funky indian dude)
- I met a really nice fan of mine, she was taller than me and she was very beautiful. Thank you for making me feel like a rock star for one night and hey I got your email, you got yourself a stalker. ;]
I might/ might not add to this list later.

i really feel that the Advertising industry in Kuwait are having a bad time. they are not orgnized at all, and there is nothing worths to get an award.
till now i havent see any creative Ad from kuwait, i dont know where is the problem exactly but this is what i noticed…
