El Hamra Bank

I realize there’s another version of this ad where the hands belong to men but I’m sure you noticed as much as I did how gulf bank been using this version more than the other. They realize they have a reputation of having the hottest chicks around and the want to emphasize on it? They apply segregation rules where males can’t touch the hands of females?

… and while we’re at it, Why I can’t see one hand of ‘those’ that says “KUWAITI” … I want to see a darker skin, I want to see the tip of an A’bayah … I don’t see “nationalization” in that ad … I see “Lebanization”

P.S: Fuck you gulf bank, your ads are so big they don’t fit in my scanner and, no, you’re not worth wasting my time scanning two parts and attaching them together in photoshop.

I don’t see lebanization here… there are some darker tones included in this ad… also could have some syrians, egyptians, jordanians.

ALSO … one of the biggest issues of having a less kuwaitis who appear in ads, is coz most females either have issues with families when it comes to being in an ad, or most kuwaitis wont even accept the fees offered to appear in an ad. Hence, its a kuwaiti cultural issue and not a “lebanese mafia” in advertising issue. If you look around middle east, gulf, and north africe, most the advertising issue is conquered by lebanese BUT you have local people in their ads.

Rampurple, I’ve seen kuwaiti girls who are way “whiter” than the girls in the ad, It just would be nice to acknowledge the majority of the kuwaiti public who have darker tones. Yes lebanese people and kuwaiti people are both arab (to a certain extent) but you still gotta realize the cultural and racial differences. Another thing, I don’t see any dark tones there (in the ad) that hand down is in the shadow, that’s all.

And I would bet that all the girls or at least three of them are lebanese, two of them at least work for the same agency AND at least one in a creative position. :p

Also, yes some kuwaitis might not accept the lousy fees they get here but tell my why should they settle for less when they see what their lebanese “less-looking-kuwaiti” brothers get here … I would like to quote mark when he said “Iyad was paid for his role in the ad the same amount (I think even more) then any other model would have been paid.”

about the other countries, well … yeah sure, like in saudia for example where they have nice looking guys who would model for the same fees and less (keep in mind saudis don’t have the same facilities in their life like kuwaitis) but I still see people who are DUH obviously lebanese in almost all the ads on tv … hell they even sometimes dare to mimic the saudi accent only to end up with disasters (see that tea ad (lipton?) … where Abu Abdullah’s family is supposed to be gathered to drink tea … “hatha bait boo 3bdalaaa?”)

    Thank you

    urgh!

first, whats wrong with kuwaitis settling for the SAME amount as non-kuwaitis? why should they get paid more for doing the same thing? the client, which usually IS kuwaiti, wouldnt want to pay more for talents just so coz they are kuwaiti. AGAIN this is a kuwait internal issue that a non-kuwaiti cannot solve.

ALSO, for your own information, it rarely ever is the talents voice you hear on TV. Most actors just act, and a voice over is later recorded. This is why you would also find European TVCs with a kuwaiti voice-over.

ALSO for your own information, Saudi Arabia has a lot more “local” talents then Lebanese talents.

I suggest you stick to just criticizing art work since that is what you do… isn’t it?

oh take it easy rampy, you guys (you and mark) have a really bad temper … chill and take a deep breath, remember this is just a personal blog and this is only my opinion.

now … they did settle for the SAME, but why should they settle for LESS (see I can use caps too :p) … it’s what I said in my previous reply after all.

ALSO, I realize how “it rarely ever is the talents voice you hear on TV.” but I still hear lebanese voice-overs mimicking saudi accent … stuff that is sadly funny, we’re so used to it we don’t give a damn about it anymore.

“Saudi Arabia has a lot more “local” talents then Lebanese talents.”

Doesn’t that just support my point? Saudi’s are more likely to be models than kuwaiti, who would say NO to the quick easy buck and the temporarily fame in a country like Saudi. The question is WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY?

Rampurple, I suggest you don’t suggest what I should write about and what I shouldn’t and if my blog bothers you that much I promise I won’t be offended if you decided to stop reading it.

tata… ur right about one thing it IS your blog afterall… it’s your choice what you want to write about whether it does make sense or not.

second, i commented here and not mark, therefore why even bring up mark?

Third, the reason I used caps is only to highlight important stuff and not coz i am temprered.

I won’t go on discussing this topic with you since you are already convinced about a certain idea and won’t hesitate to change you thoughts.

The reason I do comment on your blog is because I thought you would be willing to open a discussion on the topics you do write about. This is one of the tools of blogs afterall, to learn, to teach, to represent, and to discuss.

I am simply tired of this entire “overly reacted” attack of the Lebanese invading the advertising industry. Halal 3aleyon if the Lebanese have invaded the advertising industry in the Middle East, the Gulf, and North Africa.

For your own knowledge though, I work for an advertising agency that is owned by two Kuwaiti females who have worked, and still do work harder then most of us in the agency PLUS I am the only Lebanese in this agency.

Kuwaitis get paid a lot more in Ads then non Kuwaitis. I don’t what agency you worked at where they paid Kuwaitis less then other nationalities.
