Jahra’s Take On Danish Cartoons

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

It’s a bit late but I just saw that and I gotta admit although my position is clear about this issue I still admire the light-hearted humor in this slogan, beats burning embassies in my book anytime of the fucking week.

I think I will make a t-shirt out of this.

For non-jahrawi-bedouin-arabic-speacking people, It’s “Ya Mal’ Al Ba’ar Yal Denyemark’ … I can’t even think of a translation.

Intercom Broadcast

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Our Manager, who’s leaving us soon, is using his intercom to ‘broadcast’ some obscure bob dylan songs and a some blues music. I’m totally loving it.

feels like a scene from an independent film. I will miss him.

Car CD Player Recommendations

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

I need a recommendation on which brand/ model I should get for my car as it doesn’t have a built-in CD Player. I want something sophisticated with mp3 compatibility and whatever cool features you think I would be interested in.

I think I have seen something that has a bluetooth thingy incorporated in it.

Please let me know of prices, dealers and any experience you had.

Thank you

Ramblings

Monday, April 24th, 2006

OK, so It’s unusually quite at work and I’m not working on anything really.I guess it’s time I give you the long awaited update on what’s been happening in tatabotatasville.

One main thing is, ladies and gents, I got a job and I would like to think of it as THE job. I’ve been working as an Art Director at a local agency since the 4th of January. I decided to stop blogging temporarily to focus all of my attention on my job. I mean how many times I’m gonna sit here and click to see if there’s any new comments here and there, I’m sure you know what I mean. I just didn’t have the time to do that. No more chatting on msn (sorry my msn pals, I will make it up one day).

I’m sure you guys are wondering why don’t you blog when you go home after work when you’re all chilled and comfortable wearing your ‘emkasar’ and sitting cross-legged on your old chair at the comfort of your home. Well, Ladies in gents, …. yes here it comes …. I MOVED OUT OF JAHRA! (finally)

It’s my third month in there and I gotta tell you guys and girls, I LUUUUURVE IT. I’m only 10 minutes away from work. I don’t have to hear the noise of my little brothers having a fist fight anymore. I don’t have to drive somewhere at midnight to get a sandwich from my big brother’s favorite restaurant … just because he wants me to. No more ‘when are you gonna get married, son’ talk. No more weird looks on my way out of Jahra.

Now don’t get me wrong, It’s not like I abandoned my roots and family. I still visit them every weekend and sleep there whenever I can. It’s not liked they used to see me everyday back in my freelancing days. I had days where It’s just practical to sleep in the office, because I stayed working really late and I have to be here again in the morning (in 5 hours basically) so I might as well unfold my sleeping bag and snuggle inside it.

Hmmm … What else? Yeah so I don’t have a phone line in my new residence and I kinda like the idea of being disonccedted. (erm … yeah right) No really … I didn’t really miss my roommate’s TV when she broke it. I like how quite it can get sometimes. How suddenly you have the time to do so MANY things and hey, I still got my computers If I was in the mood for a DVD.

My roommate is in london since two weeks now and honestly, I think I like it better this way. I mean we’re friends and everything but I think I’m a loner. I’ve been contemplating a house warming dinner ever since I moved in my lovely place and maybe invite some of my bloggers and bloggeritas but I think Kuwait’s summer will do more than just ‘warming’ the place. :p

OK, somebody just tapped on the shoulder to remind that I ACTUALLY have something to do.

See you guys and feel free to ask any questions, I may/ may not try to answer them.

KFC Identity Rip-off

Monday, April 24th, 2006

This gotta be the most hilarious rip-off I have seen in a long long while. So They took the colors, they made an extra effort to mimic the typeface. However, they replaced the iconic image of Col. Harland Sanders with a weird looking rooster.

What’s really funny is, although the rooster might be a masculine symbol, the restaurant’s name has ‘Kanneth’ in it.

Life can’t get any better. :p

No More Chatterbox

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Spam got the best of me and I decided to get rid of that chatterbox, really it became annoying as hell. PLUS, I would rather get emails than wait two-three days to see what’s in my chatterbox. My cell phone is configured to check my email every 30 minutes, so be sure whatever you send to me will be read and will most probably get a reply instantly wherever the fuck I be.

My email is bighair at this very same domain you’re reading this blog from.

Thank you

Now Mukan

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Yesterday I finally managed to meet the beautiful people of mukan and I supplied them with the new t-shirts. So for those who are still looking for them, you can find them in mukan. BTW I had the best club sandwich ever in mukan yesterday, john makes it like no other.

wait for mukan’s map

On another happier note, I GOT MY CAAAAR. Too bad they say I have to drive it really slow (80 Km/H) for a week or so.

Fairouz’ AUD Concert Sampler

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

My fairouz-loving friend just sent me an audio clip with samples of the songs she sung in her latest concert in Dubai at the American University. I think she still got it and I’m looking forward to listen to her album which is on hold for the moment as she’s a little bit depressed, Is that a new thing to Fairouz? :p

Listen: AUD Concert Sampler

Kuwaiti Productivity

Monday, April 17th, 2006

Check this ad out, the headline roughly translates for “Finish your work quickly and efficiently”. What’s funny is the facial expression of the guy, he seems surprised. I doubt it’s intentional. If that guy was saying something, It would be in a though bubles and it will be something like ‘Me? Finish work? Quickly? EFFICIENTLY? Bil mish mish’ … the result? a very successful ad that connects with the target audience (native kuwaiti dumbos) by casting one of them as the model.

They nailed it, they did.

P.S: I hope you can smell the sarcasm in there.

DSL Question

Monday, April 17th, 2006

What would happen to my DSL Line if I relocated to another area and I changed my phone number too? Would it still work? Do I need to arrange with my ISP? Is there any fees I have to pay again?

Ever been in this situation? Please share.

Something is cooking

Monday, April 17th, 2006

Yesterday I came home dying out of hunger, I tried to follow a moderate diet. So for my first day I had a mixed green salad for lunch followed with an apple after, like, 45 minutes (I couldn’t resist). So as soon as I reached home I started cooking ’something’ …. it’s a mix of lentil soup, 2-minutes noodles and some vegetables but I assure you, it’s was edible. I couldn’t eat it all so I saved some for the next day.

Today I actually managed to make salad BEFORE I go to work. Such an achievement really, I’m so proud of myself.

Danish products found in Sultan Center

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

Today during my lunch break I went to sultan center to get that bottle of italian dressing I been craving for a while and guess what I found, a bottle of italian dressing of the ‘Danish Best’ brand (which is quite obviously is made in Denmark). Now I don’t want to discuss the whole danish cartoons thing in anyway. I just wonder why a company like Sultan Center would boycott all danish products only to bring them back after the whole country forgets about that incident.

Even though I don’t support what Sultan Center did few months ago, I would rather see a company that believes in a fixed set of values and stick to them. That’s just plain hypocrite.

Car Potatoes

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

Do we have any laws against watching TV in the car while driving? Don’t you think we need ones? If I had a car accident with someone who was watching TV while driving, whose fault really it is?

The Car Died, Long Live The Car

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

So it was raining yesterday, right?

I was just out of marina mall after picking two books that I totally fell in love (Wall and Piece, Manga) with and after I paid in a mix of kuwaiti dinars, emarati dirhams and even virgin gift vouchers (wink at jazz central and the stallion).

So I was just getting out of Slamya heading home. Right after the traffic light near the scientific center. The Car in front of me stopped suddenly and I had nothing left but push the brakes pedal as hard as I can, which resulted in the car sliding on the slippery road and, yes, crashing into the car in front of me.

Remember when I was complaining about my car a long while ago? well, Fortunately I was using that very same car. Right after I saw what happened to the front of the car. I gotta admit I kinda felt happy and I thought “Well, that’s it … You’re dead now. That’s all I needed.”.

So this morning I went to al babtain (local nissan dealer) and I got me a white sedan Tiida. Suitable for my needs and my budget. After that I went to Salmya police station to clean the mess of yesterday. Thanks god the other person was cool enough to understand it was nobody’s fault and we agreed to fix our own cars on our own.

There’s a lot of updating I need to do for you guys, a lot of things happened recently.
Stay Tuned.

On People talking shit

Monday, April 10th, 2006

In this post I would like to answer the questions and reply to some of the comments left by some so-called readers of my blog in this post.

Someone called ahmed said “The point is as u are claiming
ur blog is “closed” plz dont use it and the readers to advertise and market ur goods.”

Well, thank you for acknowledging the fact that it’s MY BLOG. Sir, I can advertise for fucking penis enlargement kits and you can complanin all you want and I can not give a fuck about it. It’s my blog and I can do whatever the hell I want to do with it.

Another one called Talal said “ممكن تحدثنا عن الفن اللي تشتغل فيه؟

Apparently you didn’t even bother to read this post.I taught myself and I specialize in corporate identity design, I already have a portfolio website that will stay unconnected to this blog for the time being and I don’t feel like sharing it with the likes of you. Last but not least I suggest you look up the definition of ‘Art Director’, obviously you misunderstood it. I’m still trying to figure out how came to the conclusion that my t-shirts are made in china based on a picture.

In the end I would like to thank my fellow blogger, Q80-Chill Girl for the positive comments she left.

Further Notice

Sunday, April 9th, 2006
