I just found this old draft post from the 7th of November 2005, back when I had the time to answer zillion silly questions. Reading through it, I couldn’t help but feel all nostalgic and a little bit weirded out by myself. I want to edit few things but that would kill the fun.

I have no idea why I’m sharing this now.

Mini Ramblings

Monday, October 16th, 2006
  • I want to blog, I don’t feel like it though.
Ok, I’m just going to write things as they come to me.

  • Been looking into buying a trailer, and living in one.
  • The Mars Volta’s new album is nice, but … bit noisy at some parts.
  • Work been a bitch but I don’t mind it as much as I used to … a new machine always eases the pain of working extra hours.
  • KTM is dead, long live the writers who won’t stop bitching about it.
  • Who’s up for a bloggers ghabgah, preferably a mixed one. Everybody bring a little of what they cooked that day and come over to my place. Chill, chat and taste the delights. Anybody?
  • Yesterday, I was one of the two witness for my friends marriage. Will talk about the hilarity of it in another post.
  • The Zutons’ “Valerie” is such a lovely song, but isn’t that “oooh oooh” part a total rip-off of The Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy For the Devil”?
  • I can’t wait for my teaching career to start! My first class at SAE will start on the 4th of November. I will teach “Graphic Design For Print”.
  • New Year’s Eve in Goa, Yes yes. ;)
  • ‘mbarak alaikum elshahar? Anybody?
  • One album I can’t stand waiting for is Jarvis Cocker’s solo debut. “Cunts are still running the world” is leaving me wanting for more.
  • See … I feel guilty blogging.
  • For fuck’s sake, Where’s Gigi? Girl! Drop me a line or else.
  • Ok, it’s like two-months-old news but my roommate moved out without letting me know.
  • Today … my first day at the gym, feels great.
  • Had a minor car accident (don’t you hear that way too much from me, it’s becoming boring) but I swear to god, it’s always their fault. It’s the third I might as well add.
  • Bootyless, I miss you!
  • Shurouq too.
  • Do I check kuwaiti blogs recently? No.
  • Where all these new blogs came from? can’t keep up, would somebody tell me the interesting ones that I totally gotta check out?
  • Ok, I swear I’m doing something about the T-Shirts. Hopefully you will see something before the end of the year.
  • Wait wait … I don’t want to post it yet … I got more to say, goddamit.
  • Oh to the hell with it, I’m gonna post it.

Notes On The KAAA

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

  • 6:00 People are gathering, more and more are coming in … more and more familiar faces, It was almost like a school reunion. “Hey!” was the keyword.
  • 6:30 The entrance hall was getting stuffed and nobody is allowed in the main hall. More mingling, more conversations juggling.
  • 7:00 They finally let us in.
  • This dude is talking in a very “patriotic” way about advertising, It just made the whole “school reunion” experience worse and worse. We were already feeling bored and wanting to get out.
  • They award the sponsors, then they traumatize us with a supposedly 1.5 minute silent film showing the logos of the sponsors. The film got repeated like 10 times due some technical difficulties with the audio.
  • They grow up and decide to go on with show promising us we will see that amazing film again WITH SOUND after the break or something.
  • Some of the winning ads are totally new to me. Aren’t they supposed to be published to be listed in this competition?
  • In the public service category Paragon was competing with itself. I was really surprised when paragon won. (see: sarcasm)
  • The spot light they point at the winners and pass by at us too almost blinded us, The sound almost fucked up our ears for good.
  • who on earth would misspell “Dubai” and write “Duabi”?
  • Maybe the same guy who misspelled “Virgin” by writing “Virgen”
  • I was commenting (see: dissing) on P&A’s commercial for (Dar Al Istithmaar? the one with the kid and the old man with pearls) … I was saying in a relatively high voice “Oh my god, this is awful … No Lip-Sync at all … lip-syncing sucks”. A minute later they announce the very same ad as the winner, the guy next to me stands up to get the prize (so he was the general manager or the creative director) of P&A comes back … I pat on his back and say “mabrook”, he goes like “the lip-sync was bad” I go “Oh well, …”, he goes “The actors are indian” I go like “Oh really?” he goes like ” … ” I shut the fuck up and clap for the next winner.
  • Cigar smell (see: stink) all over the place.
  • Saatchi & Saatchi were the big winners.
  • Only a handful of kuwaiti companies won anything at all. Caviar Productions won a prize, I don’t know which category though, for Soug El Salmyah Ad. (with the funky indian dude)
  • I met a really nice fan of mine, she was taller than me and she was very beautiful. Thank you for making me feel like a rock star for one night and hey I got your email, you got yourself a stalker. ;]

I might/ might not add to this list later.

The Bad Mofos

Monday, May 16th, 2005

Ever seen ‘Pulp Fiction’ ? Do you remember the wallet Jules Winfield was carrying? Ever wondered Who else is qualified to carry the bad mothafucka wallet?

Well, wonder no more. This is a list of 100 people who, according to the writer, are qualified to carry the legendary wallet.

You don’t have to be a ‘Pulp Fiction’ fan to appreciate this list, you just need to be one of those pop culture junkies (mostly nerdy pop culture). From marvel comics to 70’s films and TV shows, From Bruce Lee to Bill Hicks. They’re all there.

Scissors Sisters - Take me out (Franz Fedinand Cover)
The vocals are kinda overdone which ruins it for me but I’m in love with instrumental part especially that funky bass.
Man Man - moustache
” … You need pornography to help you sleep tonight … “
The Dears - Summer of Protest
The official soundtrack of kuwait’s summer.

On Repeat

Goran Bregovic & Iggy pop - In the deathcar
From the soundtrack of Arizona Dream. Here’s your only chance to hear Iggy pop sing over some Arabic kanoon and gypsy brass music, he also do some ‘aaaahh’ in very Arabic/middle eastern way. This track was used as the Intro track for the movie. Another Version of this track was used as the outro, the title is “This is a film”. This lyrics of the outro are kinda funny but also wise and thoughtful, but you have to see the movie to get it. He doesn’t really sing, It’s almost rapping in a very slow way Actually the whole track have this weird hip-hopish feel to it, No snares involved though.

The Cardigans - Love Fool
I’m addicted to this track and I have to sing with it in a very high pitch every time I listen to it … In addition to some girlish hand moves and steady left/right/left/right body movement.

Tenacious D - Fuck Her Gently
Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks! Jack Black Rocks!

Duane Eddy- Rebel Rouser
Lately I’ve been trying to listen to as much surf rock as I can, I just love the sound of the guitar with the spring reverb cranked to the max. This track is a classic surf rock anthem, complete with a brass section. Very Tarantino if you know what I mean.

Tracks I Love

Wednesday, October 6th, 2004

Gotan Project - La Del Ruso
From their killer Album (La Revancha Del Tango), I dunno but I feel there’s some kind of a khaleeji Vibe to it. Also listen to “Epoca”.

Thom Yorke & PJ Harvey - This Mess We’re In
I dunno why I never gave radiohead a try (I know i’m missing alot) but whenever I listen to a track by thom yorke and some body else (outside radiohead) I just fall in love with it. More Examples: Bjork & Thom Yorke - I’ve Seen It all, DJ Shadow & Thom Yorke - Rabbit In Your Headlight (from Unkle’s Album Psyence Fiction).

Perez “Prez” Prado & His Orchestra - Guaglione
I just love it, I haven’t seen the movie where they used it as soundtrack. Lili Boniche made a song called “Bambino” and he used the same Melody.

Sandy Bull - Carmina Burana Fantasy
I found this track on a Compilation CD made by REM. I don’t know much about sandy bull but I knew that he’s an experiemntal Guitarist. In this track he used the Banjo to play the work of German classical composer Carl Orff. He Used Oud to play a classic jazz rhythm (I can’t remember the name) which was recently used by fairouz in her latest album “wala keef” (the rhythm that is).

And the Winner is …

Saturday, September 4th, 2004

Wait a minute. I tried really hard to pick a winner but it was impossible, As I said before some of them are just too good to lose.

So, Being generous and all …

Here are the FIVE Winners of My First T-shirt Competition, In no particular order:

Nibaq’s
“a snake who ate an apple.”
For its simplicity and sense of humor.

Mama Fusla’s
“a monotesticular martian”
For its out-of-the-box-ness.

shosho’s
“A real burtuqala”
For its pop culture awareness.

Purgtory72’s
“a Bat on top of the moon”
For its … Well, I saw the bat’s face.

chocolates’
“a flower with only 2 petals left.”
For its sweetness. :p

As for the rest, better luck with the next competition. You may also like to take the next competitions more seriously (in a funny way).

All the winners shall contact me to arrange the whole thing.

Loop

Wednesday, September 1st, 2004

Here’s a Loop that I’m playing with right now, I might develop it to a whole track.

EhLoo.mp3
(Right Click, Save Target As)

What do you think?

I sampled the following:

1. Bjork - Joga (The strings in the beginning of her track).
2. The Waifs - London Still (The Bass, it was an acoustic guitar I just turned the pitch down).
3. Super Mario (The noisy hihats, from the soundtrack of the old Nintendo game).

I played the following:

1. The Oud (Lute), yeah that was me. I tweaked the sound a lil bit.
2. The Tabla.
3. The drumloop in the background was composed by me too.

Notes on the Closing

Monday, August 30th, 2004

Due to the lack of anything to do yesterday and inspired by the great Fusla I watched the “closing” ceremony of the Olympics in Athens. For some reason I knew I will need a notepad to take notes. Here it goes:

1. What’s with Sad Old Farts in the beginning of the ceremony?

2. Why the hell do we need a commentary for? I tried to switch to other channels but the same smart asses was on them all.

3. There was this segment where “Tourists” are running and jumping in very happy manner. One of them (she was wearing red) had these amazingly big tits and they were jiggling in a very crazy manner. (yeah, I notice stuff like that)

4.When the French team entered the middle of the circle I saw some of them were holding some cute dolls, any body any idea? I swear to god I’ve seen them before, Just don’t know where.

5. Who was the mohajabah behind the IOC president?

6. What’s with the very short dresses of that Chinese band with weird guitars?

7. Have you seen the look of fear on the face of the little Chinese little girl when they triggered the fire works?

8. What’s with Anna Vissi? The extra slutty-ness? (Greek Britney Spears, I guess) She was singing over the Pulp fiction soundtrack by the fun loving criminals.

9. Have you seen that kite? Tits? On the whole fucking screen? That was fun. I wonder if they blocked it on KTV3, yeah right, like they can.
