I just found this old draft post from the 7th of November 2005, back when I had the time to answer zillion silly questions. Reading through it, I couldn’t help but feel all nostalgic and a little bit weirded out by myself. I want to edit few things but that would kill the fun.

I have no idea why I’m sharing this now.

Biting The Big Apple

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

It’s 2 AM here in Denver, Colorado. After a week in DC we went to Huntsville, Alabama for few days and here we are packing our bags to leave the mile high city and head towards New York. I will post more details and pictures as soon as I’m back.

but for the time being I would appreciate suggestions on what to do in New York. I realize how crazy the question is. I mean “what to DO in New York” … Maybe I should ask what’s not to do. Ah … Sorry if I’m not making sense, did I mention it’s 2 AM and I didn’t pack yet?

Tata Speaks at Kuwait University

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

I was asked to speak at Art’s & Design Department at Kuwait University’s College For Women in Al- Adeleyia a while ago and I agreed to do so.

Today was the day, I kept procrastinating on what I should talk about that I only managed to write anything in the few hours before the lecture, hell, I even managed to do a quick slideshow.

I wasn’t satisfied with the quality of the material overall but I still think it will be useful to them. I even asked the girl who’s coordinating the whole thing about the worst case scenario and what could happen if I just couldn’t make it. She freaked out and she told me that it might affect their grade and they’re honor students.

It became a mission to me to do this presentation no matter what, I can’t hurt the girl’s grade … I really can’t live with that especially after I gave them my word.

So I step in the classroom say hi and start plugging my iPod to the main computer to get the presentation. I was quite nervous the first ten minutes but I snapped out of it and I managed to impress myself. I really felt I was in control and I was giving the girls something they can really use in their professional life.

I talked about the job market and their real-life options after they graduate. I offered tips on the process of job hunting and landing yourself a job in an advertising agency.

Funny thing is, Just minutes after I arrived at the office I found this comment on my blog. I just couldn’t help but read it out loud for my colleagues and crack out laughing. I wonder what the other girls thought of the lecture.

Dusty Weather

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

It’s so dusty outside you can hardly breathe. The cell phone networks is messed up, I get calls with people’s voice distorded the sound like a robot.

Wish I can record that.

Big Chicks

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

The chick on the Fatafeet TV channel ad makes go like “Uhhhh!” everytime I pass by those billboards.
Tasty goodies and devilish look that says “I might be a mom but I would rock your world”

Uhhh

I would savour her to the last fatfootah.

Jahra - Kuwait - Jahra (Again)

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

I slept over at my family’s house last night. My parents are going for haj together and I feel like I have to spend more time with them before they leave. I might even stay over with my brothers and sisters for the whole haj period till my parents come back.

One thing I was looking forward was seeing how long it will take me to get to work from jahra. I mean I know I’ve been living in jahra all my life but I just wanted to make sure and just compare it to the long times I spend on Fahaheel Expressway on my way to work from Salwa (where I live at the minute).

I left the house at 7:07 and I reached the office at 7:44. If I left my Salwa residence at 7:07 I would be stuck in the school traffic and barely be able to make it to work on time. (at 8:30) Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating but c’mon for crying out loud, it’s supposed to be an expressway, right?

I lost count of how many traffic lights are on my way from jahra but I can tell you, the are more than 5, 4 round abouts, endless turns here and there. Still, I get to work faster if I’m coming from Jahra.

Dubai Done

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

The workshop was amazing, dubai was even more fun … although I used the chance to catch on some much needed sleep, I managed to do other activities.

The best thing I got out this whole trip wasn’t the free iPod Nano with welcome package but the friends I made along the way.

On a not-so-random note, Ziploc Bag is one of the greatest inventions of recent times.

Stay tuned for more action in here (maybe not)

Let’s do it

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

I just got this message:

Lebanese Embassy is collections clothes, blankets, canned food to send aid into lebanon. Please help in their collection and drop it off at the embassy.

Please think about it, how long it will take you to gather your friends and ask each of them to donate something like 10 KD or something, skipping starbucks one day won’t kill anybody. Instead get together, buy the things mentioned above and send them to the embassy.

and please be smart when you buy things, don’t go to sultan center and buy some canned food items like that, instead go to the wholesale markets in Shuwaikh and get cartoons for way cheaper prices. Help more people by being a smart consumer.

god bless

meanwhile I’m working on something for the cause

Intercom Broadcast

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Our Manager, who’s leaving us soon, is using his intercom to ‘broadcast’ some obscure bob dylan songs and a some blues music. I’m totally loving it.

feels like a scene from an independent film. I will miss him.

Ramblings

Monday, April 24th, 2006

OK, so It’s unusually quite at work and I’m not working on anything really.I guess it’s time I give you the long awaited update on what’s been happening in tatabotatasville.

One main thing is, ladies and gents, I got a job and I would like to think of it as THE job. I’ve been working as an Art Director at a local agency since the 4th of January. I decided to stop blogging temporarily to focus all of my attention on my job. I mean how many times I’m gonna sit here and click to see if there’s any new comments here and there, I’m sure you know what I mean. I just didn’t have the time to do that. No more chatting on msn (sorry my msn pals, I will make it up one day).

I’m sure you guys are wondering why don’t you blog when you go home after work when you’re all chilled and comfortable wearing your ‘emkasar’ and sitting cross-legged on your old chair at the comfort of your home. Well, Ladies in gents, …. yes here it comes …. I MOVED OUT OF JAHRA! (finally)

It’s my third month in there and I gotta tell you guys and girls, I LUUUUURVE IT. I’m only 10 minutes away from work. I don’t have to hear the noise of my little brothers having a fist fight anymore. I don’t have to drive somewhere at midnight to get a sandwich from my big brother’s favorite restaurant … just because he wants me to. No more ‘when are you gonna get married, son’ talk. No more weird looks on my way out of Jahra.

Now don’t get me wrong, It’s not like I abandoned my roots and family. I still visit them every weekend and sleep there whenever I can. It’s not liked they used to see me everyday back in my freelancing days. I had days where It’s just practical to sleep in the office, because I stayed working really late and I have to be here again in the morning (in 5 hours basically) so I might as well unfold my sleeping bag and snuggle inside it.

Hmmm … What else? Yeah so I don’t have a phone line in my new residence and I kinda like the idea of being disonccedted. (erm … yeah right) No really … I didn’t really miss my roommate’s TV when she broke it. I like how quite it can get sometimes. How suddenly you have the time to do so MANY things and hey, I still got my computers If I was in the mood for a DVD.

My roommate is in london since two weeks now and honestly, I think I like it better this way. I mean we’re friends and everything but I think I’m a loner. I’ve been contemplating a house warming dinner ever since I moved in my lovely place and maybe invite some of my bloggers and bloggeritas but I think Kuwait’s summer will do more than just ‘warming’ the place. :p

OK, somebody just tapped on the shoulder to remind that I ACTUALLY have something to do.

See you guys and feel free to ask any questions, I may/ may not try to answer them.

Something is cooking

Monday, April 17th, 2006

Yesterday I came home dying out of hunger, I tried to follow a moderate diet. So for my first day I had a mixed green salad for lunch followed with an apple after, like, 45 minutes (I couldn’t resist). So as soon as I reached home I started cooking ’something’ …. it’s a mix of lentil soup, 2-minutes noodles and some vegetables but I assure you, it’s was edible. I couldn’t eat it all so I saved some for the next day.

Today I actually managed to make salad BEFORE I go to work. Such an achievement really, I’m so proud of myself.

Car Potatoes

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

Do we have any laws against watching TV in the car while driving? Don’t you think we need ones? If I had a car accident with someone who was watching TV while driving, whose fault really it is?

On People talking shit

Monday, April 10th, 2006

In this post I would like to answer the questions and reply to some of the comments left by some so-called readers of my blog in this post.

Someone called ahmed said “The point is as u are claiming
ur blog is “closed” plz dont use it and the readers to advertise and market ur goods.”

Well, thank you for acknowledging the fact that it’s MY BLOG. Sir, I can advertise for fucking penis enlargement kits and you can complanin all you want and I can not give a fuck about it. It’s my blog and I can do whatever the hell I want to do with it.

Another one called Talal said “ممكن تحدثنا عن الفن اللي تشتغل فيه؟

Apparently you didn’t even bother to read this post.I taught myself and I specialize in corporate identity design, I already have a portfolio website that will stay unconnected to this blog for the time being and I don’t feel like sharing it with the likes of you. Last but not least I suggest you look up the definition of ‘Art Director’, obviously you misunderstood it. I’m still trying to figure out how came to the conclusion that my t-shirts are made in china based on a picture.

In the end I would like to thank my fellow blogger, Q80-Chill Girl for the positive comments she left.

Goodbye for now

Monday, February 13th, 2006

This blog is closed till further notice.

Will miss you all.

P.S: I’m not deleting anything cuz that’s just lame, enjoy the archives.

Stuff & Stuff

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

Ok, I realize I haven’t been blogging as much as I used to. I miss blogging and I miss the discussions. There are few reasons to explain what’s happening and I’m not really keen on the idea of sharing them.

You see, I kinda kinda live a double life, not a wild difference between the two but I still don’t want them to cross each other. I found out recently that these pages are read by some of my distant family members and while I’m not really ashamed of anything I did or plan to do, I would still appreciate some privacy.

The thin line between these two lives will be blurred eventually.

Silly thoughts like deleting the blog have crossed my mind but keeping it outdated with all the things I see on daily basis is also something that bugs the hell out of me. There are so many things happening in my life I need to share them with somebody.

I’m sorry for my msn pals for not logging in as much as I used to. I miss you all.

Bootyless Bootycall Buddy, Are you back?

The Dreamers Club

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

I have this idea … I pitched it for rampurple but apparently she didn’t buy it. :p

Well, you’re a creative guy … you want to do something with your life, you want to release an album, you want to make a documentary, you want to shoot the next big thing. Whatever it is you want to do, you wil eventually need tools, right? and if you know your stuff and the quality level of your work really matters to you, you will want to use great tools, which … yes … they cost money, sometimes serious money.

Now I’m not saying you’re cheap for not paying that much money to pursue your dreams but let’s be realisitc, nobody wants to pay big bucks for something they would use only twice a year or worse once and then shelf it to collect dust and becomes an antique.

My idea is simply to get a bunch of those dreamers and make a list of the things they would like to have access to, stuff they might need. They would all pitch in and get the tools they all want.

There will be some kind of regulation on who gets what and for how long but all of that could be figured out later.

I want these with the necessary accessories and the little things that make them more useful:

Nikon D2X
Sony HDR-FX1
Tescam HD-P2

What do you think? Do you want to join the club? :p

Awaileee

Monday, February 6th, 2006

There’s a bit of a real jahrwai in me, I want a GT, I want that GT.
For those who are really curious to know what’s written in there …
والله أني عارف وش النهاية
roughly translated
I really know how it’s gonna end.

Naseer Shamma on FM 107.3

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

… and I highly doubt the guy who is playing it knows shit about what he’s playing.

Update: Oh shit, they’re playing whole albums.

Jahra - Kuwait - Jahra

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

Few days ago I was thinking how it would be nice to finish the books I started reading recently and how it would be nice to have my own driver that can take me around while I get busy with other stuff during the long ride from jahra.

so I guess my dreams came partially true when my shitty car got funked again yesterday. There was smoke coming out of the engine and I couldn’t Identify what was wrong but I just got sick of this car and I think it’s time for a new one but till I find a new car I think I will go back to using buses. so there you have it, reading books in a public bus. The dream comes true, never mind the smell.

I’ve always wanted a nice practical car, with a lot of space. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee looks ugly but not that bad. My brother is raving about how economic is the new car from nissan, Tiida. I’m open for suggestions too. Just keep in mind my budget is something between 3-7 thousands, so be realistic, mmkay?

Note: I wrote this post a few days ago but because of fastelco’s internet issues I couldn’t post it. The car is fixed now, guess I’m stuck with it for now.

Living Togetehr

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Is it true that unmarried couples who want to live together here in kuwait can’t do that because they need a marriage certificate (which the majority tends to fake)?

Hell, what if a guy and a girl just want to share the apartment? they need to do that too?

We are 2 Finally!

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

Just upgraded to Wordpress 2.0, It wasn’t that hard … didn’t face any problems. I read the instructions carefully and I followed them. Thanks god the plug-ins I use the most are working fine in the new version. I will fix the ad banner issues once I have free time. Tell me if you notice anything weird.

عظم الله أجركم

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

I don’t know how will things go from here but I hope everything will be fine.

Just yesterday I was designing a book for a local company in which there’s a page that had the pictures of Shiekh Jaber, Saad and Subah … I guess I will have to take that picture down now. :(

I’m shocked, this feels as if I lost my own father.

Lost

Wednesday, January 4th, 2006

Damn … I forgot my phone at home and I feel totally lost without it. Weird how we get so attached to cell phones.

سكة سفر على سكة السفر

Wednesday, January 4th, 2006

Today on my way to the office they had Nabeel Shuail’s ‘Sekkat Safar’ on the radio. It’s been like a million years since the last time I heard that song.

That’s what I like mostly about Marina FM, although it’s mostly operated by kuwaitis, the music appeals to many tastes.

Hello

Saturday, December 31st, 2005

Good Morning my friends

This is just to let you know I’m still alive, too many things are happening at the same time in my life right now and I’m not sure I want to talk about them yet.

I miss you guys

Few Hours After …

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

… so I didn’t go to the nubian thing but you know what I did? I met Al (friggin) Franken and I even have the pictures to prove it. YES, Al Franken is in the country. I talked with him a bit but it wasn’t about america’s foreign politics or any of that, I was explaining to him what tata botata means.

any body went to the nubian thing? worth it? should I go tomorrow?

Undies in the Street

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

Finding undies in the streets of jahra is quite common when I’m jogging in the almost deserted streets but to find undies in kuwait city near a construction site, makes me think twice.

I don’t know why whenever I see one of those I try to make the story behind it. Who came here to have a late night fling outdoors and had so much fun they forgot their undies? Who was innocently walking here when an excessively horny construction worker was around?
